ENGLISH
This week we began our inquiry into the life and times of the famous playwright, William Shakespeare. Through various forms of presentations in class we learnt about some of his famous works. We also discovered some interesting facts about the Globe Theater. Emulating Shakespeare, we coined our original words and used them in sentences. We have completed reading Act I of the play, As You like It and have created a vocabulary list for the many new words we encountered." MATH We discussed questions based on angle properties of a triangle. We were given questions to practice and to clear doubts with the help of teacher. Then, we framed 5 questions based on lines and angles and peer assessed the answers. SCIENCE We performed an investigation on preparing slide of onion peel, parts of microscope and testing substances for the presence of starch and glucose. We used iodine solution when testing the given substances for presence of starch and Benedict’s reagent to test the presence of glucose. We also learned about the necessities of life and prepared a poster in groups on the same. We then watched videos on digestive, respiratory and excretory systems. While watching the videos, we created a flow chart on a particular organ system. This was followed by group discussion and reflection on our conceptual understanding of the same. We also prepared a model of plant and animal cell and presented in the class. I & S We worked on our charts and posters related to Disarmament Day. We also revised ancient civilizations. We started the new unit on “Making Connections". We understood the meaning and content of geography and had a brief idea of five themes of geography. LANGUAGE ACQUISITION SPANISH We did an inquiry on ATL skills. We researched on things we have in our house and enjoyed presenting it through various web tools, i.e. "Scratch, Coggle and Easel ly". FRENCH We worked in three groups to research and find out the vocabulary for different parts of the house. We also practiced pronunciation and taught the same to each other. In addition to this, we worked on sentence starters required to write the description of our home and discussed the various cultural differences between houses in France and India. HINDI We read a story titled ‘Ticket album’ and identified ‘Samuchye bodhak shabd’ (Conjunctions) and learnt new words like shantipurvak, jamghat and angeethee from the same. We also used these words to frame meaningful sentences. We are also practicing diary writing. MUSIC We discussed and learned about the elements of music (melody, pitch, rhythm, harmony, timbre, texture and tempo) and also created our own rhythm pattern with body percussion. PHE We took an assessment on healthy lifestyle. DT This week, some of us were ready with our solutions and handed over our products to the respective clients. Two other groups are giving final touches to their products. We evaluated our products by preparing a list of questions for our clients and noted down their responses in our presentations. We were assessed on the evaluating stage of design cycle. ICT We evaluated the games we created using scratch with the help of our peers. It was a good reflection on our efforts put in to create these games.

English The week started off with us exchanging assigned chapters from 'Letters from a Father to his Daughter' and making a poster based on them and presenting it. We were peer assessed on it. Ms Elena gave a presentation on speed-reading, skimming and scanning, in which we learnt tips for reading non-fiction for research. We reflected on it in the form of an informal letter. We also visited the library where we learnt about the MLA format of bibliography. Math Math started with a group work on number lines and BEDMAS. We took a formative assessment. We also revised rounding-off numbers. We started the next chapter on Number Properties and worked on some questions. I & S We started our new unit about ancient civilizations. Mesopotamia, Egypt, Indus valley and Ancient China are a few of the civilizations that we have started learning about in I & S. We had our Summative assessment for the previous unit. We also reflected on the unit. We commenced our probes on ancient civilizations with the Harappa and Mohenjodaro. Science We continued with our presentation on physical and biological models. This task was peer assessed. We also learned to label different parts of microscope using an interactive drag and drop activity. We also started working on scientific method through an activity that helped us understand why scientists hypothesize, design an investigation, perform the experiment, collect data and finally analyze and evaluate the experiment. Language Acquisition French We learnt about adjectives we can use to describe someone. We learnt how to describe someone's eyes, hair, stature and personality. We also revised verbs. Spanish In Spanish we learnt about describing words. We took turns trying to describe each other. We also learnt how to conjugate different verbs. We then revised the IB learner profile in Spanish. Hindi We read a story ‘Mein hoon naa’, discussed it in class and summarized it. We also identified new words and used them to make sentences. We are also practicing a poem ‘Ho gayee hai peer parwat see’ for Hindi Diwas assembly. Art We took a formative assessment. In groups, we planned for making a 3-D piece of art related to folk art. We have explored different types of folk art such as Aboriginal, African and Warli. ICT We learnt programming concepts such as loops, arrays and conditional commands. We explored the sound block in Scratch programming. DT In the process of creating the products, safety norms were discussed in the class. We are getting the exposure to tools and materials while creating products. PHE We continued our unit 'Healthy Lifestyle' in football.
Maths
We started with the revision of Roman numerals and place value. Place value chart was done in class. We did a group activity on different number systems. We revised questions based on addition and subtraction, in class. Word problems based on addition and subtraction were discussed in the class and we tried to solve some problems. Science We learnt about the MYP science command terms. It was interesting to know and explore the Global context, related concept, key concept and the statement of inquiry of our first science unit “World of Science”. We also used the KWL chart to understand what we already know about science, what we want to learn and what we will find out during the course of this unit. It was very interesting to complete the cartoon strip task on “safety rules in the science lab” and we thoroughly enjoyed familiarising ourselves with and learning about the equipment used in the science lab. We also discussed why scientists ask questions, branches of physical science and prepared a poster on how to work safely in the lab. Through peer and self-assessment we completed our work during the lesson. We also completed an article based homework task to address the debatable question: "Scientific development is a boon to mankind” and also performed a reading activity. Language and Literature We familiarised ourselves with the Global contexts, Key concepts and Related concepts for English Lang & Lit. Various Command terms were introduced and explained. We established essential agreements for our class. We were taken on a visit to the new library in the secondary block where we placed our books wish-list with the Librarian. We were given Pre-assessment test in the class to test our prior knowledge. We were introduced to various genres in literature. Through discussion we predicted the purpose and style of writing in the book. Venn diagram that compared and contrasted the email and handwritten letters was drawn in class. We read the first chapter, ‘Book of Nature', in class. We gathered objects from nature and brought them to class. A group activity that involved us creating a story outline for these objects and the life they might have experienced. Individual and societies We are on our journey to the past in Individuals and societies. We learnt what we are going to study in the subject. We learnt how to carry out inquiry and chose a topic, framed inquiry questions and inquired into the topic. We explored two types of sources- primary and secondary. We saw a couple of videos and we are able to recognise each type now. We learnt about the five types of sources for ancient history. We worked on the historical timeline that shows human history. We started our journey with the Palaeolithic people. Language Acquisition: French We worked on Essential Agreement and discussed the possible Global contexts, Key concepts, related concepts, ATL skills and Learner profile attributes for our new unit. We also learnt useful classroom phrases in French. We also learnt numbers from 1 to 100, names of days and months in French. Afterwards we applied all this knowledge to write our birthdays and date of birth in French. Hindi We had a discussion on IB Learner profile and importance of ATL (Approaches to Learning) skills in learning Language Acquisition. We discussed Command Terms used in Language Acquisition. We read the story ‘Baaz ki Udaan’ by Nirmal Verma and discussed Learner profiles associated with it. We were given a pre assessment test to determine our prior knowledge. Spanish Through role play in pairs we worked on Spanish greetings. It helped us to recall what we had done last year and enhanced our communication and social skills. We learnt a greetings song in Spanish “Hola! ¿Cómo estás? We explored Global Context, Key Concept and Related Concepts associated with our first Unit (¿Quién soy yo?/Who am I?) We learnt numbers from 1 to100 and the alphabet. We did one homework assignment based on greetings and self-introduction. DT We were introduced to the design world and various design problems. We learnt design cycle as a tool to solve problems. We interviewed MYP teachers to understand their design problems. Back in class, we brainstormed and discussed the solutions. ICT We discussed Design Cycle and various criteria in the digital design. We learnt how to create info graphics using an online tool easel.ly. We created an info graphics on "Elements of games". PHE We explored new sports facilities and decided upon our choice in sport for EDGE. Arts We studied Folk Art and we tried to develop the same in the contemporary style by moving away from the conventional ways. We understood how the conventional ways of Folk Art have changed in the present global perspectives. Music In Music class we had a discussion on new unit "Elements of music". |
