The unit on Jataka Tales began with presentation of our research on inquiry questions. We took turns at sharing our favorite Jataka Tales by either narrating them or using different forms of media. We watched short videos of stories from Aesop’s Fables and Panchatantra as well, and determined the common thread in all such tales. We, then, discussed the Global Context, Key Concept, Related Concepts and the Statement of Inquiry. After understanding the five elements of a story, we were introduced to the concept of a monologue, and subsequently, internal monologue, through videos and class discussion. We are currently working on rewriting any one Jataka Tale as an internal monologue.
Math
We revised the concepts of statistics in class and discussed the same. We have been introduced to the concept of probability and practiced questions based on that. Finding probability for different situations made it easier for us to understand the concept well. We also practiced making pie chart and bar graph in class and read different graphs to answer specific questions.
Science
We started our new unit “Making Life Easier and Fitter”. The Global Context, Key Concept, Related Concepts and the Statement of Inquiry were shared in the class. This unit started with starter questions based on song related to the concept of Force. We answered the questions in the video followed by a class discussion. We then learned about balanced and unbalanced forces and completed the T graphic organizer while watching a video on the same. We also learned to draw the force diagrams and the significance of the size and the direction of the force arrows when drawing these diagrams. We then started exploring about Newton’s Laws of Motion.
Language acquisition:
Hindi: We learnt kriya visheshan (adverbs) and used them to form sentences. We also wrote saaraansh (summary) of the story “Bade Bhai Sahab” . We have started practicing for the play ‘Aise-Aise’.
French: Explanation, structure and use of reflexive verbs have been introduced to us. We have discussed about the difference between reflexive and non-reflexive verbs. We revised regular verbs ending with ‘er’. We learnt to conjugate pronominal verbs according to the subjects. We watched some videos on the unit ‘daily routine’.
Spanish: Explanation, structure and use of reflexive verbs has been introduced to us. We learnt how to ask and tell time. We have discussed the difference between reflexive and non-reflexive verbs. We revised regular verbs ending with ‘ar’. We learnt to conjugate reflexive verbs according to the subjects.
PHE
We practised general fitness routine in circuit training while preparing for our unit in football. We did short sprints, standing high jumps, broad jumps and side runs to improve our fitness index.

We have started with a new unit on Interior design. We completed a research on elements and principles of Interior design and shared our understanding through class presentations.
ICT
We started working on our new unit on 3D modelling and animation. We explored the software 123d Design. We also explored the statement of inquiry and topic of the unit. We are in the process of writing a script for the animated sequence.
I&S: We established the birth place of the Aryans. We investigated into various scientific evidences that established that the Aryans did not come from Central Asia but were indigenous to India. We also proved that several points of information mentioned in the Vedas and epics represented historical facts. We learnt how the people were organized socially and politically in the Vedic Period. We have carried out inquiries on the caste system and the position of women in the early Vedic, late Vedic and the present times.

We re-attempted our Term-End Assessment paper to eliminate all our mistakes. We wrapped up our old unit. Our new unit on 'Data Handling' began with an activity in which we formulated questions to ask our classmates. Using their responses, we organized the results and calculated the average of the data collected. We also took a summative assessment on 'Points, Lines and Angles' .
English
We discussed our performance in the Term End Assessment and completed the correction work in class. We then started assigning parts for role play for Act I and Act II of As You Like It. The script for Act I has been practiced and props and costumes have also been determined.
Simultaneously, we started reading and paraphrasing Act III, scene 1 and 2.
I&S
We saw our answers scripts and did the corrections. With a discussion on various theories on the advent of Aryans in India, we started with our new unit -"Ancient India".
Science
We discussed Term End Assessment papers and have done the corrections in the notebook. We learnt the working of a thermometer and learnt about temperature conversions into different temperature scales. This concept was explained in collaboration with math and taken by Ms. Joya. We investigated the effect of heat energy on movement of molecules. We conducted a research on thermal expansion and its application in daily life and represented our understanding in form of poster. This presentation was peer assessed.
Language Acquisition:
Spanish
We did a follow up on our term end assessment and wrote a unit reflection.
French
We did a follow up on our summative and wrote a unit reflection. A discussion was held on how to answer the challenging questions without making errors.
Hindi
We were shown our term end assessment answer sheets and were given feedback on the same. We are now expected to do the correction work, rewrite the answers, edit our work and revisit the grammar concepts covered in this term. We are also expected to read any one story of Munshi Premchand from the given website (http://hindisamay.com/premchand%20samagra/Indexpremchand.htm) and write a review on the same in our process journal during the winter break.
PHE
We began our new unit on 'Athletics'. We practised relay, hurdles and sprint racing. We also learnt about the ancient and modern Olympics.
Visual Arts
We have done individual work using folk elements and style. We have made different styles of folk art based on research on a variety of folk cultures. We have tried to develop symbolic representation through a wide range of colours.
ICT
We enhanced our knowledge of computer fundamentals through Kahoot Quiz.
Music
We practiced playing percussion instruments.
English
This week we were introduced to more poetic devices namely Onomatopoeia, Mood, Tone, Alliteration and Repetition. We created our own examples for each of the poetic devices we have learned so far. We also revised Act I and II of As You Like It and formats of formal and informal letter writing. We took our formatives for both, Poetic devices and As You Like It.
Math
Students practiced questions based on set theory to understand better. They were also introduced to the meaning of subset and wrote down all subsets of a given set. We also discussed weekend worksheet in class which was assessed by peer groups. We have started asking our doubts about all units covered so far as part of revision.
Science
We discussed and learned to calculate the volume of regular and irregular shaped solid objects during practical class. We also measured volume of liquids using graduated cylinder. We discussed and differentiated between mass and weight through practical and educational videos.
I and S
In the last fortnight, we have measured the distances of the form room as part of our unit ‘Making Connections’ where we learned about the components of map and how to read a map and will convert the measured distance into scale and draw the plan. We explored on five pillars of geography and also found out about five elements of map. We worked on four figure grids, six figure grids, legends, directions and scale. After identifying symbols in respective four figure grids, we measured distances according to scale
Language Acquisition:
Spanish
We practiced for our individual upcoming orals. We took a formative assessment on criterion A, comprehending visual and spoken text.
French
We watched videos on house and describing a person to practice criterion A. We also revised the previous two units and practiced answering questions for our speaking assessment.
Hindi
We listened to a story ‘Nadaan Dost’ and wrote the summary of the same. We watched a video ‘gher kee talaash’ in concurrence with their current unit ‘Mera awaas’ and identified the five elements of a story like setting, plot, problem and solution. We also read and wrote a poem ‘Mein sabse chhotee hun’ and did comprehension exercises on the same. Thereafter, we revisited the concepts of grammar.
Music
We started our new unit "Patterns in music" and played different rhythmic patterns on percussion instrument (Cajon)
ICT
We learnt how to create a word cloud using Tagul. We explored for information related to a place of our interest on which we will create a brochure for attracting tourists.
PHE
This week, we learned and practiced stance and block start in basketball.
Art
We have almost finished our group work on folk art. We are now giving finishing touches to the final work.
DT
A guest speaker. Dipanshu Gupta from Learning Institute for Style and Art, gave us some tips on creating costumes using recycled papers and newspapers.
We have started creating unique and elegant costumes.
CAMP
In the month of November we went for a beautiful camp to Ramgarh. We all enjoyed it thoroughly and learnt many skills. The most exciting part of the camp was trekking. We went to a local school and interacted with the students of that school. We made lovely posters with them to spread awareness regarding importance natural resources. It was an amazing experience.

We prepared a quiz on Act I and Act II from ‘As You Like It’ using any web tool of our choice. We were introduced to poetic devices (Simile, Metaphor, Personification, Rhyme and Imagery). We practiced these through various extracts from poems and created our own examples. We also revised tenses.

Students were introduced to sets and their notation. various examples of well-defined collection and a not well-defined collection were discussed. Students also understood the meaning of intersection of two sets and tried to read and represent the given information using Venn diagram.
Science
We have discussed the new unit ‘Matter everywhere’. We have also discussed the Key Concept, Related Concepts and Global Context of the same as well as the relevance of the Statement of Inquiry for the unit. We have done a starter activity for the unit wherein we represented our understanding about the properties of a solid, liquid and gas by doing a role play, making posters and using a Venn diagram.

We learnt prepositions of place and practiced them in class. Using different IT tools, i.e. storyboard, word cloud, scratch etc. we exhibited our newly acquired vocabulary on the topic “MY HOUSE” and we projected the same in the class.

We watched a video on ‘house’ and attempted first, the general questions and then, with another video on the same theme, we practiced the strands of criterion A

DPS International hosted an inter-school competition related to art and technology called TechArt 2016. Around 10 schools from Gurgaon participated in this unique competition which integrated technology and contemporary arts to create impressive works of art. Four competitions named Visionaries, Audiolize, Digipainter and Collart took place on 9th November and renowned artists judged the work of the contesting students. Some students from MYP, DPSI received awards for their outstanding performance in this event.

Prisha Benarjee of MYP 1 received the second prize for Digipainter
Rishi Mohan and Harshal Agarwal received the third prize Collart.
DPS International also won the Overall Trophy. However, being the host school, we passed on the trophy to the school in second overall position.
